ec14 workshops are designed to focus on the participants' growth as Christ followers. This year we prepared 32 workshops, providing opportunities to grow up as Christians, tailored to modern life and the issues that participants may face in the future. There are 8 interest categories in the workshops. Following are the symbols for each of the categories. Those symbols are also on the workshop descriptions, so we hope that it will help with narrowing down your choices when deciding which workshops you would like to attend.

Symbols

1) Returnees (Symbol: RN)

If you or a close friend of yours are going back to Japan in the near future, or if you are the one to accept those who come back to Japan, these are the workshops for you. We provide opportunities to learn how you should prepare before going back to or visiting Japan, and what to expect in Japan. These workshops are filled with concrete examples and advice from speakers who live in Japan and those who accept and support returnees in Japan.

2) Growing & Discipleship (Symbol: GD)

Would you like to learn more about God, get close to Him or grow to serve His purpose? These are the workshops for YOU! What's the meaning of salvation? How did God design you for His purpose? What does God expect from you? God uses different opportunities and various methods and places to learn.

3) Leadership (Symbol: LS)

If there are people behind you when you turn around, or if you bring influence to those around you, you are a leader. We provide workshops to help you build relationships with others. They will be helpful for both those who are leading ministries and those who are thinking of starting a new ministry.

4) Missions (Symbol: MS)

It is God's command to reach out to the world and spread the Gospel. How does God work all around the world? What does God expect of us? How about people who are already in mission work for God? God made us to serve His purpose to spread the Gospel to all of the people in the world and where you are placed.

5) General (Symbol: GEN)

These are workshops for more generalized learning. The topics we cover in this category are: dating, marriage, evolution and creationism, relationship building, mental health and so on. If you have special interest in certain topic that we cover, please join us in our workshops!

6) SEEKERS' Program (Symbol: SK)

This is a program for all the unbelievers who seek to know what the Bible is and who God is. The theme for this year is "shifting paths." It will be a great opportunity to reflect on the path that we have been living. We'll also have Bible study, workshops, and small group. We welcome anybody who is interested in the SEEKERS' Program.

7) Youth Program (Symbol: YH)

Youth Track is a bilingual program aimed for our youth attendees (middle school and high school). It includes special youth workshops and various games and activities to bring the youth closer together. With the theme of "Restoration", ec14 youth will first learn how their broken relationship with God was restored by Jesus. From there, we will take a look at brokenness within ourselves or between others, and also look at brokenness within our community and discover how God's love can bring restoration.

8) English Speaker's Program (Symbol: ENG)

For those who serve and pray for the growth of Japanese Christians and Japanese people, we've got effective training sessions for such outreach. If you are interested in spreading the Gospel to Japanese people, would like to help the growth of Japanese Christians, or are currently engaged in fellowship with Japanese people, these workshops are for you. These workshops are presented by men and women with many years of experience in reaching the Japanese for Christ. This will be a great opportunity to hear the real life experiences and advice from them! Bring your questions and an open mind and let's interact with these godly leaders.

Workshop 1
Day 2: Dec. 28th, 4:00-5:15 pm

1) Time Management for Christians LS
Haruhiko Hirayu
Location: Classroom B
There are two types of people who can not manage time. Those who don't have any plan and suffer and those whom over time manage. Either way they have not used God's time wisely. This workshop is evaluating time management. Also how to live for God and how to reconstruct your lifestyle.

2) Serving as a Mentor LS
Mayumi Pohl
Location: Classroom D
If you would like to become a mentor in the future, or if you would like to help a person's spiritual growth through mentoring, this workshop will help you. Understanding and knowing the benefit of mentoring, we will observe the qualities of a mentor and Jesus' attitude. There is somebody out there that needs you to be a mentor! Wouldn't you like to pray for a mentee.

3) Let's Start a Ministry! LS, MS

I want to share about Jesus but there isn't a place to serve. I want to start a ministry but how should I start it and I feel like I can't do it alone. Look no farther, this workshop is for you! Would you like to pray and think of how you can start a ministry and follow some ministries that are around you? "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10

4) Let's Grow through a Small Group! GEN

Location: Palm Room
You might skim through this segment if your already involved in a small group but are you growing in the small group? Also does your small group have a purpose and is walking towards the purpose? Is your small group a place you can rely and talk openly? In time the leaders unintentionally will shift the small group in their purpose. Would you like to help, grow healthy in a group, have Christian friends? I'll introduce you to the secret.

5) Christian Marriage & How to Build a Christian Family GEN
Aogu & Chisato Tateyama
Location: Auditorium
Married as a non-Christian but now we are Christian family of four. What happened in our fifteen years of marriage?! There are many detour and mistake in us so maybe now there are things we can share?! As there are many couples, families, there are many forms of Christian families. The first half of the workshop will be our mistakes that we could tell in humor. And the second half will be a Q&A. Through this workshop I pray that God will speak to you and that it will be of assistance for your Christian life and marriage life. We are excited to see you!

6) When Helping Isn't Helping GEN
Alexander Krieg
Location: Sanctuary
As Christians, we are called to reach out to those who need it, but sometimes we find ourselves in very difficult helping relationships with others. This workshop discusses unhealthy helping relationships, how to identify them, and how to draw boundaries to keep you and others safe and sound. These topics will also include a discussion on attention seeking, personality disorders, and suicide threats. Sometimes, showing agape love to others means doing the right thing by taking a step back.

* This workshop will be held in English, and have simultaneous translation to Japanese.

7) Amazing Power of Forgiveness GEN
Kaoru Inafuku
Location: Theater
It's impossible to live life on your own to stay a "good person" or "forgive." As long as you live you have hurt somebody or somebody has hurt you. Everybody needs forgiveness. Forgiveness is necessary for human relationship as having a relationship with God. This workshop is to understand the power of forgiveness and freedom through the cross. How
to apply forgiveness, Distinguishing what is forgiveness and what isn't forgiveness. We want to touch base with what only God's mercy could provide in forgiveness.

8) Sharing the Gospel (Testimony) SK
SEEKERS' Program
Location: Classroom C
When someone shares the Gospel, the keywords that come up are "God, sin, cross and salvation." A typical explanation of the Gospel will go something like this; "God loves this person but we are sinners and...." We would like to share another way of sharing the Gospel. People are moved not by "logical explanation" but by "personal story." So, we would like to share the story of restoration from both leaders' life story and the Bible story.

9) Relationship with God YH
Youth Program
Location: Classroom A
what is the sin that is between you and God? How can God restore your broken relationships? This is a time that we will break down the Gospel and the meaning of Jesus' cross for the youth. Through activities we will learn about grace, we will rejoice with praises youthfully, and we will listen to messages that are easy to understand for youth.

10) Fruitful Friendships ENG
Andy Pearce
Location: Mercy
The workshop will describe how authentic relationships with/among Japanese can lead to softened hearts and deep, transparent friendships. These friendships open the door to the experiencing of the Gospel and its power in both words and action. As lives are transformed and discipleship begins, the desire to serve others in the name of Jesus develops. Practical steps for developing fruitful ministry based on friendship will be discussed.

11) How to Handle Amulets, Fortune Teller, Religious Activities as a Christian RN
Tetsuo "Ben" Kagiwada
Location: Classroom B
Fortune-telling, amulets, funerals and Buddhist memorial services, how far is cultural and religious? As a Christian, what are we allowed to participate and which are we to avoid? Also, how can we share are testimony. We want to cover every topic and with the right understanding and to share the gospel.

12) Building a Church RN
Shigeru Suzuki
Location: Reflection Room
In this workshop we will provide information for returnees looking for a church. The first half we will focus on the Gospel of John of why connecting to a church is important. The second half we will talk about Japan church culture and history, the difference between North American and Japanese church. Also how to choose and Criteria of how to choose a church with God's word and my testimony. I don't want this to be a one-way lecture so I encourage your questions. I am excited to see you.

13) Share God's Love with Your Family (Evangelizing to Your Family) RN, MS

14) Bible 101 (Reading the Bible through a Jewish Perspective) GD

Location: Auditorium
The Bible is a "bread of life" so we must eat the bible in a way to understand the key words. It's like an invention of slice bread (Scales from the eye) as we study throughout the old and the new testament of who Jesus. Come to this workshop if you want; a confirmation of your salvation, want to lead a Bible study, want to ask many questions about the Bible!!!!

15) What is Mentoring? - Another Step of Faith in Depth! GEN
Mayumi Pohl
Location: Classroom D
This workshop is for those who isn't familiar with the term mentoring and for those who want to start mentoring for the first time. We will learn through the Bible on how to grow spiritually and how to become disciples of Christ. We will have a panel discussion. Also we will evaluate what your spiritual need are and we will know use the knowledge what the mentoring and discipleship will be affected.

16) Devotion, Listening to God's Voice, Reflection GEN
Yuichiro Inatomi
Location: Theater
Has your devotion becoming a sleption? That's because you are not hearing "God's voice." Instead of "reading" the scripture, "hearing" the scripture is fun! Through scripture we will learn how to listen to God's voice and also let's apply what we have learned. "Your word is sweeter then honey on my lips." We will not get any cavity during too much of that sweet scripture.

17) DATTttttinnnnnnggg?!!! GEN

There's a phrase "your marriage is the only person you could choose as a family." Is the person your dating glorifying God? Let's seriously pray for the person we have to spend the next fifty years with. This is a place for those who have dilemma with their partner and for those who don't. We would like to discuss how can God be pleased with dating? Let's date so we can glorify God and let have a marriage that glorify God!

18) Creationism and Evolution: Standpoint of a Christian Scientist GEN

What is evolution? What is Creationism? Medias in America will pick up these topics but is it possible that these two theories work together? We will evaluate evolution and how it intertwines with the Bible and faith in God. We will introduce several theories and how there should be a balance for faith and science as a Christian who works in the field of natural science.

19) To Your Future Self YH
Youth Program
Location: Classroom A
Understanding how to love those around you and also looking at the bigger scale of the sin in the world causing the sad events and praying for the situation. After returning home from ec how can you impact your community and how can you change? Write a letter to your future self of two month.

20) "You Matter" ENG
Hisashi "Tobi" Ishitobi
Location: Mercy
Let's rethink evangelism to the Japanese and discuss ways we can make an everlasting impact in their lives, not by inventing new methods, but by doing what we do best, to be ourselves. The chances are, you're already doing it!

21) To Stand Firmly as a Christian in Japanese Society RN
Tetsuo "Ben" Kagiwada
Location: Classroom B
Japanese society is stands on a golden rule, "Don't disobey someone who is stronger than you." If you can't obey the order of your superior you will be labeled an outcast and will not be included. "Read between the line" is also the golden rule in Japan. Living in those regulations as a Christian you will become an outlaw. How can you continue to walk in faith? We would like to discuss the possibilities.

22) World Mission MS

You are called to world mission. The core of world mission is to share the love of God to one person. But we need to understand how to share God's love through culture and language barriers. It's essential to understand the basis of inter-cultural world mission aspect when you share the love of God to your friends and family member. And it's one step close to world mission when you truly love your family and friends through God because we live in this world. To understand intercultural world mission may be a way that God will send you to another country. Anyways there are many epic stories to be hears here. Let's learn more about world mission!

23) Evangelizing Businessman MS

1) Ideology of a businessman - Changing the way you share to close and far people
2) The purpose of living as a Christian businessman - You have everybody's interest. That's why make an environment that you are a go to person to ask questions. But remember where you stand.
3) Japanese Business society - Everybody prides their work. Let's respect that and evangelize with our work ethic.
4) Job hunting (Job hunting or dedication) - Everything is prepared for the next. Continue to stay sincere in the job that is in front of you.
5) Understanding Josephs heart when he was serving in a Pagan society - Profess that you will be a cornerstone of blessing

24) Bible 201 GD

How was Jesus prophesied in the Old Testament? We will learn about the Jewish ceremony, festivals and God's hidden plans. This class is suited for; a person that has a lot of questions regarding the Bible, a person that is leading Bible study, who's interested in prophesies and Bible history.

25) Spiritual Formation: Lifestyle of Trusting God GD

Explaining spiritual formation and providing advice with your spiritual life form, we will make a QT throughout the workshop. We will like to be a helpful workshop even after ec.

26) Find Your Spiritual Gift! - Understanding Yourself and How to Apply Yourself GD

Have you found your spiritual gift? If you haven't, lets find and apply and use it for God together. During the workshop there is a spiritual gift test. Let's understand our self and use our maximum gift from God!

27) Dealing with Depression Around Us GEN

Location: Sanctuary
Depression is the most common psychological difficulty in both the U.S. and Japan. Most of us know at least one person who is depressed amongst our families, friends, or in our communities. This workshop will focus on answering the following questions: What is depression? How is it caused? Can Christians be depressed? What can I do for someone who is depressed?

* This workshop will be held in English, and have simultaneous translation to Japanese.

28) The Secret of Happiness and Longevity - Relationship with Your Parents GEN

Location: Theater
There is no perfect parent, and you can't be perfect. How you perceive your parents effect the way you have relationships in good and bad." "Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you." is an interesting promise that is in the bible. This might be a good opportunity to stop and reflect your relationship with your parents.

32) The Art of an Effective Mentor ENG

Location: Mercy
Mentoring someone is a great spiritual investment. It is a biblical way to "love your neighbor". In this workshop, you will learn that discipling and mentoring are key for spiritual growth and revival in Japan. Also, we will provide opportunities for you to be involved in mentoring someone else. Please bring your open heart to receive God's calling to make a difference one at a time!
