Then he said to them all: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. Luke 9:23
This year's theme is "Follow Christ on the CROSSwalk"
It seems like the young generation is seeking "love." This seems especially true for the international students that are living abroad, away from their friends and parents and are naturally being connected to churches or Christian gatherings because they are warm communities. Often times, people make a decision to believe Jesus and become a Christian mainly because they experience being "loved as who they are" and hear a message that "they are loved by God."
However, the question that came up during the discussion of deciding the ec theme was "There might be many Christians who are satisfied with just being loved." Some young Christians may be satisfied with the thoughts like "I'm being loved as who I am," "I'm already saved," and "I'm okay as long as I have relationship with God" and haven't realized God's Big Picture. These are the key thoughts when ec14 directors and JCFN staff were discussing about the message that young generation needs.
The Gospel that Jesus taught us is not just for believers to receive a ticket to Heaven, but to become inheritors of God's Kingdom and experience His Kingdom even on this earth. Jesus said "the kingdom of God is in your midst. (Luke17:21)" Jesus has a big vision and called us to be the disciples of Christ. Let's think together about what it means to believe, obey, and follow Jesus, who said "follow Me," with having God's Big Picture in mind.
